Miss Karyn Bussman

Karyn is thrilled to begin her sixth season with Water Safe Swim, where she is passionate about educating families on water safety and drowning prevention—a passion she never knew she had. Her journey began when Miss Julie, her granddaughter’s swim instructor, invited her to join the team and become certified. Since then, Karyn has fully embraced this role, finding it both meaningful and rewarding.

Although water safety is a newer focus for Karyn, she has spent most of her life working with children. Her extensive background includes babysitting, lifeguarding, running preschool programs, educating families on nutrition, being a certified fitness instructor for all ages, owning a gym, and teaching PE at her children’s grammar school. Each of these experiences has prepared her for the impactful work she does today.

A Lodi resident for 24 years, Karyn and her husband, Keith, have raised five children—three daughters and two sons—and their family continues to grow with a granddaughter, a son-in-law, and a couple of significant others. She cherishes her close-knit family and enjoys frequent gatherings, game nights, and pool time, never experiencing the “empty nester syndrome” others describe. Karyn wouldn’t have it any other way.
